It could be that the bigger challenge to the old guard comes from programs dedicated to simplifying chart-making or to offering every possible charting option. The traditional presentation masters - Harvard Graphics, Freelance Graphics, Persuasion, PowerPoint - are now challenged by newcomers such as Astound and Action that offer both basic charts and control of new media such as sound and video. Multimedia gets the raves, but bars, pies and outlines earn the paycheck.

And although computer experts spend lots of time discussing and writing about multimedia presentations - full of color, animation, sound and video - most real-world work is still on paper in black and white.
